NEW MIXTAPE; Gucci Mane I Am Trap (Mixtape)

By Nemmy Kim.

Gucci Mane - I Am Trap (Mixtape)
The appearance of a few rushed tracks doesn't detract from Gucci Mane impressively reverting to his early aughts form with the "I Am Trap" mixtape.
By now, the phrase “Free Gucci” has lost any semblance of relevancy. With prison stint after prison stint, probably not even Guwop himself can count how many times he has had cuffs slapped on his wrist. But despite being locked up, Gucci is determined not to let his name be milkboxed into obscurity. Most rappers that go to jail wait until their release date to bless fans with an extraordinary level of creativity cultivated from months of staring at walls, doing push-ups, and writing rhymes 24/7. Although he stated that prison “kills your spirit,” a fresh outta jail, California-dreamin’ Tupac reportedly came out the gates and recorded the multi-platinum classic All Eyez On Me in just two weeks, as the legend goes.

J. Period says that a conversation he had with Wyclef inspired some of the rapper’s lyrics on “How Many Mics,” a song that appeared on The Score, the Fugees’ multi-platinum 1996 album.
“Wyclef calls me and explains his whole life story,” J. Period says in an exclusive interview that premiered in the DX Daily today (September 5). “This is before The Score, so nobody knows about the Fugees at this point in time, except they had ‘Mona Lisa’ ['Nappy Heads,' which features the Fugees saying 'Mona Lisa']. He tells me his whole life story. He’s like, ‘I was raised in Crown Heights [Brooklyn]. The Black kids would be like, ‘What’s up, Black?’ The Jewish kids would be like, ‘What’s up, Jew?’ I was like, ‘Well, I’d never heard of that, but you called me, so, OK, cool.’ So basically, the first single of The Score dropped.
